Senior Legal Advisor

As a Senior Legal Advisor, you will be instrumental in drafting, negotiating, and managing the energy supply agreements (ESAs) that NOA enters into with its customers. Your role will ensure that these agreements are legally sound, commercially viable, and aligned with NOA’s strategic objectives.


  • Draft, review, and negotiate energy supply agreements (ESAs) with customers, ensuring terms are clear, enforceable, and aligned with NOA’s business objectives.
  • Provide legal advice on the interpretation and execution of ESAs, addressing any contractual issues that arise, managing the contracts to ensure seamless customer interactions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including sales, operations, and finance, to align contractual terms with operational capabilities and financial goals.
  •  Manage the lifecycle of ESAs from initial negotiation through to execution and beyond, ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Advise on risk management strategies and develop frameworks to mitigate legal risks associated with ESAs.
  • Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure NOA’s agreements are always compliant, with one eye on the evolving SA energy landscape and the raft of changes which are imminent.
  • Represent NOA in negotiations with customers, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders, advocating for the company’s best interests.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and negotiation processes.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior legal staff and other team members on contractual and legal matters related to ESAs.
  • Support the development and implementation of NOA’s overall business strategy, providing legal insights and recommendations

Position Specific Requirements:

  •  Minimum 8 years of experience in a legal advisory role, preferably within the energy sector or a related industry.
  •  Proven track record of successfully drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
  •  In-depth understanding of South African energy markets, regulations, and legal frameworks, regional markets an advantage.
  •  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate legal issues and propose effective solutions and distil complex legal language into executive decision making material.
  •  Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships at all levels.
  •  Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment.
  •  High degree of professional ethics and integrity, with a commitment to NOA’s mission
    and values. Proficiency in legal research and relevant software applications, including contract management systems.
