Job Overview
Oversee and manage all aspects of the planning and delivery of our utility scale renewable energy plants to ensure that financial close is achieved.
Coordinate the activities of all parties involved in the project, including Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contractors, Original Equipment Suppliers, Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Contractors, Owners Engineers and third-party consultants in accordance with each parties respective contract terms. Keep track of all CPs required to achieve FC.
This position reports directly to Head of Closing/Head of Engineering and Procurement
Key Accountabilities: Design Review and Compliance Monitoring
Project Development
- Assist Site and IPP Sourcing (SIPPS) team on project sourcing.
- Assist in the Development of Due Diligence (DD) criteria for the SIPPS team to consider when sourcing renewable energy sites
- Ensure project HO from SIPPS to the closing team is achieved with all the necessary DD criteria met
Financial Close Project Schedule
- Develop and update the financial close schedule
- Schedule should be realistic and meet the IC timelines
- Ensure that the relevant project gates or checkpoints is captured
- Coordinate with various internal and external stakeholders for
Procurement of EPC Contractors
- Lead the RFI process with assistance from the Project Engineer and other stakeholders.
- Receive and review all proposals from a technical and commercial perspective in order to shortlist preferred bidders
- Engage with bidders on HOTs and other commercial conditions
- Lead project optimisations
Financial Close team
- Setup an effective financial closing team
- Manage and lead the FC Process with assistance from the head of closing (Head of Engineering and Procurement)
- Assist in the contractual negotiations with the EPCs or main suppliers
- Ensure that the relevant legislative requirements are met, example Eskom and other external stakeholders
Financial Closing Team Management
- Effective management of internal and external stakeholders
- Coordinate and manage the LTA where required
- Ensure all individual team members are aware of their deliverables and are able to deliver timeously
Reporting
- Develop an FC tracker
- Weekly reporting (can be verbal) to relevant stakeholders
- Report to the NOA Investment Committee
- Flag any risks/problems immediately to the head of closing
Risk management
- Identification, evaluation and prioritization of risks in accordance to the probability and impact of occurrence in terms of health, safety, monitory, time, quality and environmental impact
- Communicating risk with the project stakeholders at its earliest stage to enable the project team to manage the risk effectively before the impact and probability of the risk escalates.
POSITION SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Minimum qualification (s) required:
- Engineering, Project Management, Finance or Management related Degree
Minimum experience required:
- 5-10 years’ experience as a Project Manager in the power generation industry, with preferably the renewable energy industry
- Over 3 years site experience in financial close or project development of renewable energy projects in South Africa
Industry knowledge, technical competence and skills:
- Knowledge of financial closing activities
- Proficiency in other project management software tools
